Known As The First Mountain City

Jasper is a city located in Pickens County, Georgia, with a population of about 3,700 people, according to the 2010 census. Jasper is one of the country’s oldest towns, with a history dating back to 1853. In its early days, it had a few hundred residents, primarily farmers and miners, who lived on abundant, fertile land.

Jasper's unique geographic location, nestled within the Appalachian Mountains, contributed to its growth in industries such as mining and agriculture. Rich deposits of marble found in the area gave rise to a robust mining industry, which contributed significantly to the city's growth and economic prosperity. Jasper was even referred to as the "Marble Capital of Georgia" due to the high quality of marble extracted from its quarries.

As for its name, the origin of "Jasper" is believed to be from a Revolutionary War hero named Sergeant William Jasper. There are other theories, too, but this one is the most widely accepted.

Today, Jasper continues to be a thriving city and is known as the "First Mountain City." The city has seen substantial growth over the years, with a reported increase in population of over 20% in the last decade.

Jasper is home to many landmarks and attractions that draw visitors year-round. The nearby Amicalola Falls and the Appalachian Trail are popular tourist spots. The annual Georgia Marble Festival, held every October, celebrates the city's rich history in the marble industry.

Jasper is part of the Pickens County School District, which has a strong reputation for providing quality education to its students. There are several elementary, middle, and high schools in the district, as well as a few private and charter school options.

With its rich history, natural beauty, and welcoming community, Jasper continues to be a beloved destination for those seeking a slice of life in the Georgia mountains.
