Roswell GA, Known As One of The County’s Oldest Towns

Roswell is truly the historical gem of Georgia. Located in north Fulton County, the city is the 8th largest in the state, with a population of about 95,000 residents. It was founded in 1830 by Roswell King, who moved to the area and opened a manufacturing company. Because rivers surrounded it, the area was perfect for the textile industry.

Roswell was officially declared a city on February 16th, 1854. It is one as one of the most vibrant cities in the area. It boasts a large Historic District, comprised of 640 acres filled with home tours, ghost walks, restaurants, festivals, arts, and even a shopping area. This part of the city is fueled by Roswell’s history, particularly the Civil War years when Union forces captured the city.

At the time, all economic activities were impaired, a common tactic Union general used to undermine the South. Many markers in today’s Roswell still tell the story of the Civil War, making this city very attractive for tourists and history lovers.

In 2003, it received the City of Excellence Award from the Georgia Municipal Association, and it has been ranked as one of the safest places to live in the United States.
