Known as the Technology City of the South
Alpharetta began with a trading post and some settlers in the 1830s. From there the tiny community grew and on December 11, 1858, the City of Alpharetta was officially born. Later, it would become the county seat of Milton County, which would later merge with Fulton County during the Great Depression.
The Alpharetta area remained small and mostly agrarian until around the mid-1980s, and then the growth began in earnest. In 1980 the population was 3,000; today it’s over 65,000 and is Georgia’s 12th most populous city. And during the workweek, the population grows each day to over 100,000. Known as the Technology City of the South, Alpharetta boasts a large number of tech companies.
But tech isn’t the only that makes Alpharetta stand out. The city is home to a park system beloved by residents and visitor alike. Community parks, walking trails, sports fields, playgrounds, and arboretums are plentiful.
The beautiful and extensive Wills Park not only provides quality sports and other recreational facilities but also boasts one of the best equestrian facilities in the Southeast. And meandering along the idyllic Big Creek, you’ll find a pastoral greenway system, complete with a pathway for the enjoyment of hikers and bikers. Alpharetta may be all grown up now, yet for all her sophistication manages to retain a sense of community and is still a great place to raise a family, work, and enjoy life!
