Calhoun’s landscape was once home to one of the fiercest battles at the beginning of Sherman’s Atlanta Campaign at the Battle of Resaca. Tour the Gordon County Historical Society to see relics from the Civil War. Calhoun, once called Oothcaloga Depot, was the heart of the Cherokee Nation. Now, you can visit New Echota, the capitol of the Cherokee Nation, to learn about the history and the events that lead to the Trail of Tears.
